U2, India.Arie, Alicia Keys, Pierre Boulez Top 44th GRAMMY Nominees Nominations reflect diversity
U2, India.Arie, Alicia Keys, Pierre Boulez, Alison Krauss, Brian McKnight
and Outkast are among the top nominees for the 44th Annual GRAMMY
Awards, reflecting a year where established legends shared the musical
spotlight with a diverse array of bright newcomers.
The nominees were announced on Jan. 4 at a press conference at the Beverly
Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif., attended by many of nominees themselves,
including Arie, Destiny's Child, David Foster, Nelly Furtado, Ja Rule, Jimmy
Jam, Stevie Nicks, Jamie O'Neal, Carl Reiner, Pat Monahan of Train, and
Usher. The 44th Annual GRAMMY Awards will take place on Feb. 27 at
Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Veteran rockers U2 lead in number of nominations with eight, including
nods in the coveted Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year and
Song Of The Year categories. The group will be competing against
themselves in the Best Rock Song category as they earned two
nominations, for "Elevation" and "Walk On," both tracks from their
critically acclaimed album All That You Can't Leave Behind.
R&B/soul singer-songwriters India.Arie and Alicia Keys also earned
an impressive number of nominations. Arie picked up seven, including
one in all four of the top categories: Album Of The Year and Best
New Artist, as well as Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year
The track "Video." Keys scored six nominations, including Best
New Artist and Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year for "Fallin'."
